Amy, 12 years old, loves mathematics. She attributes her passion for numbers to Kumon.

Amy has nearly completed the Kumon Mathematics programme. She is studying differentiation, integrations and differential equations – university-level calculus – despite only being in Year 7 at school.

“I don’t think I have a natural gift for maths. I think Kumon helped me to fall in love with it,” Amy says.

In addition to developing strong mental calculation skills, Amy says that Kumon helped to develop persistence and focus, and improve her overall performance at school.

“I’ve been doing at least one Kumon worksheet every day. I think it also helped me with self-control. So that helps me with staying on task,” Amy says.

Amy has also completed the Kumon English programme, meaning she has the reading comprehension ability equivalent to a Year 12 student. Ray, Amy’s father, says he enrolled Amy into Kumon to develop essential skills in her for a lifetime of learning.

“I think the philosophy of Kumon aligns with what we want for Amy, which is persistence and understanding how to split a big goal into small steps”, Ray says.

“Our own life experience tells us that life is a marathon. It’s not about you running ahead, it’s a lifetime of learning.”

“I think that’s what Kumon can teach us.”
