Following a short hiatus, Kumon has returned to Blackwood, in Adelaide’s south-east, to help local children develop confidence in the basics of maths and reading.

Kumon Blackwood Education Centre is led by its previous Instructor, Simran Bath, who has nearly a decade of experience in developing students through the Kumon programmes. Prior to this, Simran saw the growth of her own son and nephews through Kumon. This inspired Simran to own and operate a Kumon centre.

“Being a Kumon parent showed me the great value Kumon can add to the life of a child who is lucky enough to get this opportunity,” Simran explains. “The detail that goes into the planning and daily execution at a Kumon centre is nothing short of remarkable.”

“The positive change in the self-confidence of a young child is what motivated me to become a Kumon Instructor.”

Simran first became an Instructor in 2017, opening in Blackwood. Following a venue relocation, Simran established a Kumon centre in Warradale, SA. However, she felt that the Blackwood area could greatly benefit from a Kumon centre.

“I have always felt that [Blackwood] hasn’t really tasted the true beauty of the Kumon programme,” Simran explains.

“I want to make more people aware of the benefits of learning through a method that encourages independence and self-reliance … and to help create a community of young confident minds that try to think for themselves and also think outside the box.”

Kumon Blackwood is located at its original venue, Blackwood Church of Christ, 367 Shepherd’s Hill Road, Blackwood, SA 5051. Classes operate on Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 3pm to 6:30pm.

Simran says that Kumon is a flexible study programme that can fit around any family’s schedule.

“We encourage short bursts of daily study. Consistency is the key. And now with the availability of tablet-based study via KUMON CONNECT, students can learn anywhere, anytime at their own convenience”, Simran explains.

“I always suggest studying in the morning before school when the brain is well rested and fresh. It also sets the tone for a successful day as children have already actively engaged with their mind before turning up in the school classroom.”
