Kumon Australia looking for franchisees to change lives through education

Kumon, the world’s largest after-school learning programme, is on the lookout for 22 new franchisees to operate Kumon Education Centres in Australia.

This is part of an effort to ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to learn through Kumon’s Maths and English programmes. With already nearly 300 franchises across Australia, Kumon has experienced consecutive growth in student enrolment numbers since 2009.

As of September 2019, there were 48,290 students studying with Kumon in Australia.

“Our student enrolment numbers are more than business indices, they are indicative of the contribution Kumon makes towards society by supporting the learning of Australian children”, said Esther Head, Public Relations Division Leader at Kumon Australia and New Zealand.

“Kumon’s individualised learning method can be tailored to suit the unique needs of each student. We want to provide as many Australian children as possible with the opportunity to learn with Kumon. We are looking for the right people to become Kumon franchisees to help us bring this goal into reality.”

The Kumon franchise was established in Japan by high school maths teacher Toru Kumon. Kumon grew rapidly in Japan and soon expanded beyond its borders. By 1984, the first Kumon franchise was opened in Australia.

Kumon is an individualised, after-school learning programme that develops students’ maths and English knowledge and abilities. In Kumon, capable students can go ahead to study content that is above their school grade, while those who may be falling behind can go back to practise and revise.

Through their Kumon study, students progress ahead of school grade level and become self-learners. Kumon is also pencil-and-paper learning.

“Students benefit tremendously from just 30 minutes of Kumon study each day”, said Head. “The daily practice, self-learning and pencil-and-paper approach in the Kumon Maths and English programmes, nurture Kumon students to become confident, independent learners.”

“This is incredibly important for students in the twenty-first century.”
