Kumon’s Youngest Published Author: Ready for Children’s Book Week and Spring!
Eleven year old Kumon student Tamanna has published her first book just in time for Children’s Book Week (August 19-26) after the story placed second in the Boroondara Literary Prize.
Is It Spring Yet? launched on The Book Depository and Amazon three weeks ago and is already enjoying a five star rating.
‘When I entered my story into the competition, and it won, it gave me the confidence to publish a book and I thought “Why not try something new?”’ said Tamanna.
The illustrated novel, written for young readers, follows a conversation between a curious hare and his wise owl friend as they together uncover what spring is all about.
‘Spring is my favourite season, and it’s really nice to describe in words. I want younger readers to read the book because they’ll learn more about spring. I just hope that it makes them smile – it’s a feel good book’.
The Children’s Book Council of Australia celebrates Children’s Book Week in recognition of the importance of Australian children’s literature.
‘I think storytelling is something for the next generation. People need stories. Writing is really good for your creative skills. It has a lot of benefits and can expand your imagination – that’s what I really love about it,’ said Tamanna.
Despite being in her last year of primary school, this budding young author already has a series concept in mind for her next literary project.
‘I’m thinking of writing Is It Summer Yet? because that’s the next season, and focusing on all of the benefits of summer. I like a whole range of art, particularly sketching from my imagination, especially animals. I’d really like to do the illustrations of my next series’.
