‘Suddenly Loves Numbers!’ Six Months On
One of the key aims of Kumon is to help develop children who have a positive attitude towards learning, and to above all, instil in them a sense of self-confidence. After all, it can be easy for children to lose their confidence towards learning if they are not learning material at a pace which meets their needs.
Isabella, a Year 4 Kumon Maths student, is an excellent example of the impact that the Kumon Method can have on a child’s self-confidence. She began Kumon only six months ago, and already her mother Christine has seen a difference in her attitude towards learning.
‘Kumon is bringing my child's confidence in learning back. She had completely lost her confidence in maths at primary school’, said Christine.
‘I'd luckily heard of other children who had used the Kumon Method to catch up and move beyond their age level. This is becoming a reality for my daughter. Her concentration has improved and she suddenly really loves numbers! Her results speak for the work that is put into addressing her areas of weakness and moving beyond them’.
The Kumon programmes put great emphasis on taking an individualised approach to study, as an individualised approach to learning 1) allows Instructors to assign learning material tailored to meet the needs of each student, and 2) provides each student with the time they need to develop confidence with each new learning concept.
‘Our Kumon Instructor was able to explain clearly the process and from the very beginning, her interest in developing individual learning plans for each child that are in line with their goals and capabilities’.
‘I am so relieved that we started Kumon or we would have still been struggling with maths. Now I feel before too long, we'll be way ahead.'
