Kumon helps nurture my son

Wesley enrolled in Kumon when he was four years old. It was the year before he was to start school. Wesley’s mother enrolled him in Kumon because she was looking to provide him with a structured learning environment. She did not believe that he was exceptionally gifted or bright; she just wanted to provide a good foundation for him. She was looking for a more deliberately structured, disciplined approach to education.

After six months, Wesley was studying work that was above his school grade level. By the time he had been enrolled in Kumon for 12 months, Wesley was studying long division. As a result of consistent study on a daily basis, he is now encountering maths that Year 7 students study at school.

Through Kumon, and with the support of his parents, Wesley is disciplined in his studies, concentrates well and has developed good learning habits. In addition, he is motivated, has a desire to learn, sets goals for himself, is confident and has become an independent learner.

Wesley’s parents believe he has gained so much more from Kumon than simply academic ability. Even though Wesley is advanced in maths, and can accurately and quickly compute calculations mentally, it is through the English programme that his parents have seen the most benefits on a daily basis. They believe his English has improved tremendously and he applies this to everyday life. As a result, he enjoys reading independently and loves chapter books.

At the end of the day, Wesley is a very determined six year old. He has a dream of wanting to own his own toy shop so that he can sell toys, and he would like to collect all the Pokemon cards in the world. His goal is to remain in the number one position for maths for his grade level, and he would love to eventually achieve top place in English for his grade level as well.
