Reading Together for The Reading Hour, 25 August 2012
A wonderful thing is happening across Australia in August, with families invited to gather together within their local libraries to celebrate the joy of reading.
The Reading Hour will see hundreds of people reading for an hour together on Saturday 25 August or at a similar date. These hour-long community events will be held across libraries, in conjunction with local Kumon Education Centres.
The day will be a chance for you and your child to hear special guests reading aloud and for the community to share the magic of the written word. A variety of stories, including popular children’s books from the library’s collection will also be available for families to share on the day.
An interest in reading is something that can be nurtured in all children from the time they are born. Throughout 2012, Kumon Australia and public libraries encourage all parents to talk with their children about what books they like to read.
If we read together with our children, for just ‘10 minutes a day’, this will give them a great opportunity to build knowledge, confidence and a love of learning for life.
There is no better time than now to visit your local library with your child to take part in other events throughout the year.
